Fix for sound lag/stutter (Win7)
Hi all, I bought IL2 Cliffs of Dover today, patched to 4.3 and have been tweaking for hours to get it running well. I ran into the sound stutter issue which has also plagued my installation of FSX for years. I think I've found the fix and I am posting it here in the hope that it will help others.
Problem:
Game stutters/lags briefly when vox samples are being played
(In FSX this happens when ATC voices are played, and also when the landing gear touch down)

http://community.simraceway.com/inde...der-windows-7/STEP #1
1. click on windows key / start menu
2. in the search field type and run: msconfig
3. click on the services tab, and search "multimedia class scheduler". uncheck the checkbox
4. if unchecked, click ok. when asked, DON'T restart your system. do STEP #2 before restarting !
(also, you can go through the "startup" tab's list, If you have something that isn't necessary to start with windows bootup, you can take them out easily here. this can save boot time and memory, too)
STEP #2
1. click on windows key / start menu
2. in the search field type and run: regedit
3. on the left side open the following path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > CurrentControlSet > services > AudioSrv
4. click on AudioSrv, and on the right side of the window there will be a list, search and doubleclick "DependOnService"
5. after you opened the little window, DELETE the "MMCS" part. only that part, leave the other 2 alone.
6. if you deleted it, click OK and restart your computer.
ACHTUNG ! you need to go through both step 1 and step 2 in order to fully disable this little imp !
I gladly help anyone who needs it, just drop some letters and I'll reply.
This actually worked for me and the stutters are gone from IL2 *and* FSX. I have looked for a fix for this problem in FSX for years. When I saw the same issue in IL2 I realised it had to be Windows related.
Note - I have had this lag on both internal sound and using a high end external USB sound card, it definitely isn't driver related as many forum posts suggest. This tweak hasn't had any adverse effect on sound whatsoever and the stutter playing comms sounds is now gone and the sim is much smoother overall.
Hopefully this helps some folks and maybe someone can confirm if it worked for them and it isn't just me.
